‘The UNC Dilemma’

THE EDITOR: The UNC has a good chance to wrest power from the incompetent PNM Government, but their inane remarks with the internal election could cause them to defeat themselves. The members are experienced enough to know that they belong to one party, and when the public sees the attacks on one another it would create a very bad impression, and the people would say that if they are fighting among themselves they would not be able to serve the people as they should in this failing nation.

They may call the remarks democracy at work, but to me it is destruction in the making: "Ladies and Gentlemen of this great party we have a great responsibility in choosing executive members that will serve for two years in their respective positions. We have two slates in which we have presented the candidates in their positions. We must remember that we belong to the same party, and this election is not against the enemy, the PNM but among ourselves.

"I wish we would not ill-speak one another, but show maturity while showing the people in the country that the UNC is truly the alternate party to take over the reins of Government, and they would be able to take Trinidad and Tobago out of the mess that the PNM Government has put us through. Are we going to allow this incompetent Government to win this election, and take us to damnation? Ladies and gentlemen make sure to take part in this very important election."

We the members of this illustrious party preferred to hear this speech of unity rather than that of destructive criticism, and the attacks of one another. The UNC must show that they are capable of rescuing the people of this country from the miseries of murder, kidnapping, poverty and all the unpleasantness that this country is experiencing through this incapable PNM government.
