Man shot dead in San Fernando
A TRIP to San Fernando to visit a friend turned tragic for a car rental businessman and his wife when they were both shot while sitting in their car Tuesday night. David Amogan, also known as "Goosey," died after he was shot three times in the head, while wife Narissa, 32, was seated next to him. She was also shot, and is now warded at the San Fernando General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. The incident occurred at 8 pm at Hilda Lazzari Terrace, Les Efforts East. A police report stated that Amogan and wife Narissa were sitting in their Nissan B13 which was parked opposite a basketball court. Narissa was seated in the front passenger seat next to her husband when, according to the report, two men armed with guns crept up to the right side of the vehicle and began firing shots. Police investigators on the scene, who conducted preliminary investigations, said Amogan was shot in the head three times. According to the reports, however, one of the several gunshots fired at Amogan hit Narissa. The bullet pierced her shoulder. Eyewitnesses told police they heard a woman’s screams. When police arrived on the scene, Amogan was slumped over the steering wheel. Narrisa was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where she was treated and warded under police guard. Police removed a number of spent shells from the crime scene yesterday. Investigators have ruled out robbery for the killing. Police said Amogan had several pending cases in court for trafficking in marijuana, larceny and robbery. A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Forensic Science Centre, where an autopsy was scheduled to be performed yesterday When Newsday visited Amogan’s residence at Kay Street, Frederick Settlement, family members were grief-stricken. "He was a cool fella. He never used to be in trouble," said Amogan’s father-in-law, Mohammed. Mohammed said Amogan, who rented cars, left home with Narissa at 7.30 pm. "I think they were going to meet a friend. They said they will be back soon," he said. Mohammed said yesterday that Narissa had not been told of Amogan’s death up to yesterday. Amogan’s daughters, ages 12 and seven, are also unaware of their father’s killing. Visiting the scene was a party of policemen from the Mon Repos Police Station, San Fernando CID and Homicide Bureau, led by Snr Supt Nadir Mohammed. Assisting the investigation are ASP Ruthven Paul, Insp Cyril Harry, Sgt Anthony Charles and PC Don Gajadhar. Sgt Jaikeran is continuing investigations.
