Malick students to attend school on alternate days
STUDENTS of Forms Two, Three and Four of the Malick Secondary Comprehensive School will be attending schools on alternate days, effective Monday. Parents were informed of the development at a meeting at the school on Thursday evening. However, Newsday sources said several parents were not pleased with the arrangement, and opined that the Ministry of Education was "playing" with their children’s education. Others felt some classes were better than none. The disgruntled parents were reportedly told by school officials that if they didn’t like the arrangement, they had the option of keeping their children at home. Parents were told that starting Monday, students in Forms One, Two, Three, Five and Six will attend classes, and on Tuesday, Forms One, Four, Five and Six will have classes. They will continue to attend classes on alternate days. Students in Forms Two and Three have been away from school for the last three months. They did not return to school in September after the two-month vacation. The school reopened on September 26. The new arrangement means that students in Forms One, Five and Six will have classes every day. The arrangements were put in place by the ministry to facilitate construction of a new administration building. The construction will be done by the Education Facilities Management Division and is expected to last six weeks, as pre-fabricated material will be used. The parents were informed that the arrangements will be revised at the end of October and another meeting will be held on October 27. The school has a population of 1,400 students.
