Cops arrest two dumping dead man’s body

POLICE officers during the wee hours of yesterday morning caught two murder suspects red-handed in the act of dumping their victim’s body in a canefield along the M2 Ring Road, La Romaine. The murdered victim was identified as Anthony Richardson of Spring Vale, San Fernando.  His death was recorded as the 295th  murder for the year. According to a police report, shortly before midnight on Friday, three men were engaged in a gun-purchasing deal at St John’s Road in Oropouche. The report stated that the gun deal went sour, resulting in a gun battle between the men.  One of the men, who was wounded during the shoot out, the report stated, shot Richardson killing him on the spot.

Sunday Newsday was told that Richardson was last seen by relatives in a taxi on High Street, San Fernando. The relatives, police said, claimed that they did not know Richardson’s destination. The report stated that the other two men picked up Richardson’s lifeless body placing him in a Sentra car. The men, the report stated, then drove to a lonely gravel road, in the vicinity of the Woodland intersection of the M2 Ring Road in La Romaine where they attempted to dump Richardson’s body in a canefield. A police detective, who visited the crime scene yesterday told Sunday Newsday that while the men were struggling to take out Richardson’s body from the vehicle a passerby noticed their actions and as a result alerted the police of the suspicious activities via his cell phone.

Police officers from the Oropouche Police Station rushed to the scene catching the two suspects in the act.   One of the men, the report stated, fired a single gunshot at the police before running off into the nearby canefield.   The police officers returned fire and the suspect was shot and wounded. Both wounded suspects were detained by police officers and taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where they were treated and warded in critical conditions. District Medical Officer, Dr Seelochan visited the scene and ordered the body’s removal to the Forensic Sciences Com-plex where an autopsy would be performed tomorrow.
