Strategic plan for Industrial Court coming

REGISTRAR of the Industrial Court Noel Inniss has disclosed that the Court was in the process of preparing a three-year strategic plan which will involve all stakeholders with the aim of ensuring better delivery service of the court to the public. The final document is expected to take shape by early next year. Inniss, an attorney-at-law, said in his annual report that having been on the job since 2003, he remained convinced that after 40 years in existence, the IC continues to fulfil the purpose for which it was established — to make better provision for stabilisation, improvement and promotion of industrial relations in TT.

He noted that each year, training objectives are identified that will support the court’s organisational development and ultimately benefit those persons who utilise or are affected by the services of the court. “In providing training for the judges and staff, the court looked at diversification of training providers so the delivery of training comes from a number of different institutions and persons, thus obtaining the benefit of a wide exposure,” said Inniss.

He also announced that the establishment of a Tobago branch of the IC was high on the agenda for 2005-2006. “In an effort to ease and alleviate difficulties and inconvenience experienced by parties having to come to Trinidad for the hearing of matters, Government has agreed to establish a branch of the Court in Tobago,” said Inniss. He explained that so far, a building has been identified for the court, and negotiations are being conducted for the lease of a building.
