No Carnival in the Savannah
FYZABAD MP Chandresh Sharma yesterday lodged a complaint with the Integrity Commission against Diego Martin West MP, Housing Minister Dr Keith Rowley. Sharma’s complaint stemmed from last week’s High Court ruling, in which Justice Judith Jones ordered Rowley to provide the statistics he is alleged to have quoted from when he reportedly said that most of the applicants registered with the ministry for housing units were of African descent. Sharma had requested the statistics relating to the racial composition of the ministry’s data base in respect of housing applicants from Rowley. When Rowley failed to provide the information, Sharma filed an application in the High Court under the Freedom of Information Act, forcing Rowley to furnish the statistics. Jones last week ordered Rowley to provide the information to Sharma. In his letter to the Registrar of the Integrity Commission dated yesterday, Sharma stated that the Housing Ministry, acting on the judge’s order, informed him that no such statistics were available.
