Blast victim spends birthday in hospital

ONE OF the victims from Friday night’s bombing incident in St James, who celebrated her 50th birthday in hospital yesterday, received a cake from Health Minister John Rahael.

The Minister made the presentation to Morvant resident Carol Merrin, who is recovering from her injuries at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Rahael also sang Happy Birthday to the injured woman. The Minister went to the hospital yesterday afternoon where he visited five persons still warded there, following the incident in which 14 persons were hurt. Nine persons were discharged.

Apart from, the other blast victims still hospitalised are Lavonne Ali, Alma Thomas-Antoine, Maurice Davis, and Russell Thomas.

Rahael assured all of them that after they are discharged, there will be follow-up action from his Ministry.

"If they need any counselling, medication or whatever, we will make it available to them," he said. All the victims indicated that they were not in severe pain, but were still traumatised.
