Three critical after highway smash-up

THREE men were warded in critical condition at San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) after a three-car smash-up on the Solomon Hochoy Highway yesterday morning. The drivers have been identified as Jerome Chang Soo, of Penal Rock Road, Ian Cansfield, and Ottis Arthur, of San Juan.

Officers investigating the accident said that Arthur was driving along the northbound lane at 9.45 am, when he lost control of his Kia Pride pick-up near the Gasparillo flyover.

A police report stated that the Kia Pride skidded, crossed the median and collided with a Honda CRV jeep.

The jeep burst into flames on impact. When the pick-up cleared the burning jeep, it crashed into a truck driven by Chang Soo, which eventually ran off the road.

Cansfield was pulled out of the burning jeep by other motorists.

The drivers of the other vehicles were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where they were treated and warded.

Officers of the Mon Repos Police Station are investigating.
