Fleeing bandits crash into BMW
FIVE bandits crashed into a BMW yesterday while fleeing police, and are now hospitalised under police guard. A sixth man, the driver of the BMW, has also been hospitalised. According to reports, officers of the St Joseph Criminal Investigation Department and the Northern Division Specialised Task Force were on patrol, when they confronted a stolen Nissan B 14 at Mt Hope. The car had been reported stolen in Curepe on Sunday. A chase ensued down the Eastern Main Road, south to the Uriah Butler Highway and east to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway. On reaching the traffic lights at Valsayn North Road intersection, the fleeing car crashed into a BMW driven by Michael Brathwaite. The Valsayn resident was proceeding south across the highway to enter the westbound lane on the southern side of the highway. Police then held the five men. The men, ranging in ages between 17 and 40, are from the Maracas/St Joseph and Chaguanas areas. The stolen vehicle’s number plate had been changed. All six men are now warded in satisfactory condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
