Parents appeal for help for ailing infant

THE PARENTS of a desperately ill, newborn baby boy are appealing for the public’s assistance so that their son can have urgent life-saving surgery abroad.

Little Ronaldo Guy, born to Clovis Guy and Siperena Daniel last Wednesday at the San Fernando General Hospital, has been diagnosed with Congenital Cyanotic Heart Disease with possible transposition of the great vessels, a condition that put him in extreme respiratory distress within 12 hours of his birth.

The baby’s father, a prisons officer, of Fifth Company, Indian Walk, Moruga, said his son weighed 3.58 kilogrammes and appeared healthy at birth. However, the infant’s health has deteriorated to the point where he is now on assisted ventilation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

He is currently under the care of Dr Kerryn Brahim, a Consultant in Neonatology at the hospital, who has determined that the baby requires an arterial switch operation, a surgical procedure which cannot be done in Trinidad.

Guy told Sunday Newsday that his newborn son’s condition is very grave. He is appealing for assistance so that the infant can be admitted to a hospital abroad as soon as possible.

Anyone willing to help can contact the family at 737-4589, 630-1463, or 655-1446.
