Cops hunting for suspect in Singh kidnapping
A SUSPECT in the kidnapping of Anil Singh is still at large, according to officers from the Western Division Police. Two suspects were shot dead last week after Western Division Task Force Officers raided a house at Upper Lutchman Drive, Balbadee Hill, Dibe, Jameel "Sneel" Alexander, 20 and Anthony "Fly" Ellis were killed after they fired on officers who were on an exercise in the area. Singh, 18, was kidnapped outside his family’s business place, Singh’s Liquor Mart, on October 3. Singh was sitting in a vehicle, when a car drove up alongside and an occupant of the car pointed a gun at Singh’s son. Singh was ordered into the car and abducted. Relatives of the victim maintain that they have not received a ransom demand from the kidnappers. St James Police and the AKS are continuing investigations. Out of 193 reported abductions for the year so far, 54 cases are confirmed as kidnappings for ransom. Ten of the victims are still missing and seven are feared dead. These include businessman Chris Elves, Ravi Rampersad, US Trinidadian-born soldier Baliram Maharaj and Venezuelan Daniel Lopez, Preetum Singh, Kevin Henri, Nigel Dindial, Tessa Maharaj and Nanlal Singh. Meanwhile, kidnappers are demanding US$1 million and TT$3 million for the safe release of Valsayn proprietress Tessa Maharaj. Maharaj was kidnapped last week outside her family’s Cost Plus 10 store. The 54th victim was Charlieville businessman, Nanlal Singh who was abducted while he was praying at a Hindu temple at his John Peter Road home. Kidnappers are demanding a $5 million for Nigel Dindial’s release.
