CBTT: Reduce crime now
Citizens for a Better TT (CBTT) yesterday said the large turnout for the Death March on Saturday was a clear indication that citizens were very worried about the safety of their families. "The time has come for all our parliamentarians to cooperate in introducing quick and tough measures to reduce crime now," said CBTT president, Harrack Balramsingh in a media release yesterday. Balramsingh said dealing with alcohol and drug abuse was one of the "major solutions" to decreasing murders, suicides and other criminal offences in the country. He said the illegal drug trade was growing and many students were selling drugs to their peers. If the authorities continue to ignore the fact that murders and other crimes were related to alcohol and drugs then the fight against crime will always be difficult. Balramsingh said the Government should immediately introduce the breathalyser to reduce the carnage on the nation’s roads. Balramsingh said while a world class stadium was needed, priority should be given to recreational facilities in every village and community in TT. He appealed for the Education Ministry, principals and community leaders to support the La Romaine Integrated Education Project’s annual Alcohol and Drug Awareness Week which will begin next Monday.
