CLICO launches art website
As part of its ongoing commitment to the development of Caribbean art, CLICO yesterday launched an educational website clico-caribbean-art.com at the art gallery of the company’s headquarters in Port-of-Spain. Primary and secondary school children were invited to take part in the educational tour of the gallery and website. The works of three young artists, Cadence Benjamin — photographer; James Hackett — graphic illustrator and Nikolao Noel — contemporary visual artist, were on display. It is expected that before the exhibition closes on November 4, the threesome will create a collaborative work effort on site. Yesterday, curator Sonja Dumas was excited about the young guests who were encouraged to explore their creativity as blank sheets of white paper which were affixed to the walls for them to "create a work of art." On the website itself, the CLICO art collection highlighted excellence in the visual art of the Caribbean. This online gallery features the extensive corporate art collection of the company, seeks to promote Caribbean art education at all levels, features Caribbean artists and their work, as well as essays and discussions on Caribbean works of all types. In addition, there are articles on Caribbean artists, a publication resource list and a "kids art" section for very young artists. There is also, a special section with Boscoe Holder’s Caribbean World of Beauty, featuring 12 paintings from the artist’s exhibition of the same name. Caribbean World of Beauty continues CLICO’s 14-year legacy of highlighting the works of some of the most versatile and prolific painters of the Caribbean.
