‘Robocop’ in court for kidnapping
A well-known Central businessman appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate yesterday charged with a kidnapping which occurred three years ago. Appearing before Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Court was Selwyn Alexis, also known as "Robocop." The charge laid against Alexis read that on June 9, 2002, Alexis kidnapped Henry Francis, also known as Docks, in Sangre Grande. The charge was laid indictably by Sgt Martin Pereira. Representing Alexis was attorney Patrick Godson Phillips, who applied for bail for his client. However, the attorney’s application was refused by Lee Kim, who transferred the matter to the Sangre Grande Magis-trates’ Court, where Alexis will reappear on November 13. Henry, a Sangre Grande jeweler, was abducted for ransom on June 9. He was released on June 12. As a result of investigations into the kidnapping, Alexis was arrested at his home in Enterprise, Chaguanas, and subsequently charged for Francis’ kidnapping. Reports reaching Newsday are that warrants for the arrests of two other persons have been issued in connection with the kidnapping. One suspect is said to be from the Central area, while the other is said to be in jail for a similar offence.
