Top cop: Sadiq Baksh missile case ongoing

INVESTIGATIONS into the missiles and cocaine found in a water tank at the home of Senator Sadiq Baksh, and allegations of sexual molestation which was suspected to be linked to the death of Akiel Chambers, are still ongoing.

Speaking to the media at a press conference at the Ministry of National Security’s Temple Court office, Police Commis-sioner Trevor Paul sought to dispel concerns that the matters were being covered up, or that law enforcement officers were no longer interested in the cases.

Based on the evidence the police had regarding the Baksh matter, Paul said, it was difficult to prove in a court of law that the senator was "in possession of and in control" of the two rockets and the illegal narcotics, which were valued at $1.5 million. The missiles and cocaine were found by the senator’s son, Dexter, who claimed he had looked into the water tank after receiving a phone call informing him that the items had been planted there.

Investigations revealed that the missiles had been consigned to the Venezuelan Ministry of Defence in 1998.

As a result of the second inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Akiel Chambers, Coroner Sherman Mc Nicolls had directed that additional investigations be conducted.
