Policeman’s brother shot dead

A foreman attached to the Port-of-Spain City working in the Belmont area on Friday night became murder victim 310. Dead is Denzil Watson, 44, the brother of Snr Supt Benjamin Watson, currently stationed in Tobago. According to reports, Watson, of LP 16, St Louis Village, Guaico, Sangre Grande, was playing cards with several persons at a playground at Upper Warthon Street, Laventille about 6.20 pm when a lone gunman approached and fired one shot hitting him in the chest.

The gunman and other persons at the scene then fled the area. One of Watson’s friends returned a short while later to find him dead in a pool of blood. Watson formerly lived in Belmont. Police and the DMO were called in and after visiting the scene ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy tomorrow. When Sunday Newsday visited both the upper Warthon Street and Belmont areas where his relatives live, they refused to speak to the media. Residents also remained tight-lipped. Police believe the killing was as a result of an old grudge.
