Idiots behind explosions
THE EDITOR: The fifth explosion is again an attempt to show us Trinbagonians that we are impotent to put a stop to the rampant bombings that take place in Port-of-Spain. We are jolted out of our peace while the rabid activists who perpetrate this madness run riot amongst us. What can these explosions gain for the idiots who plant these devices? There is the pathetic case of Yvonne Mc Ivor who lost a leg to the insidious device of a malicious would-be killer, and several other people who suffered pain and discomfort at the hands of these cruel, insidious, cold-blooded people. This is not merely the work of some misguided miscreant, but rather some deluded mind, possibly leading a group of gullible people, towards the realisation of their own vision of paradise. Who knows where these people meet, or live or practise their belief? Who knows what the leaders of this group (if it is so structured) teach their simple minded followers? What we know is this — indeed these "simple explosives" could be fatal and that it is merely fortuitous chance that has prevented any fatal casualties in this war that has been declared on us the unsuspecting citizens of this country. This is clearly the work of a delusional mind, one that sees himself as a god who holds the fortune of us, the innocent citizens, in his hands. He clearly does not care who he hits or injures, in fact one must believe, he gets a kick from the pain he inflicts on others. Yvonne Mc Ivor has lost her leg to this maniac and there is no denying that this courageous lady did no wrong that demands this injustice being done to her. Indeed not one of the several suffering victims can be shown to be politically active people. What can the perpetrators of these crimes use to justify his brutish means to achieve his fiendish ends? Who knows where the next bomb will explode — San Fernando, Chaguanas, Arima? Who knows the next victims? Will it be some innocent schoolchild, some caring parent or some elderly guiltless person? We expect, and demand, that the authorities do all within their power to put a definitive end to these utterly indefensible actions. Yet that remains, to put in the words of the bard, "a consummation devoutly to be wished." It is indeed encouraging to the defenceless population to be getting the assistance of the FBI and Scotland Yard to beef up our own defective police service. GEORGE DAMIAN Arima
