Cops nab 4 men on Duncan Street
Half-an-hour after a teenager was killed on his 17th birthday at Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain, police officers held four suspects, seized a mask and a gun believed to be the murder weapon. The four suspects were arrested by a team of officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and ordered to lie on the ground while officers searched several apartments in the Duncan Street area. Earlier, around 10.30 am yesterday, Isiah Huggins, of Clifton Hill East Dry River, was walking along Nelson Street, when he had an argument with four men he knew. Reports revealed that Isiah cursed one of the men, who pulled out a gun and shot him in the head and back. As he slumped to the ground, the killer and his accomplices fled the scene. Several people who witnessed the murder claimed that the killers ran towards Duncan Street. Acting on a tip, IATF officers, who responded promptly to the report, searched several apartments at Duncan Street, where they held four suspects. The suspects were taken to the Besson Street Police Station where they were questioned by a team of Homicide officers. An autopsy on the teenager’s body will take place tomorrow. Relatives of the dead teen said he had planned to celebrate his birthday and had gone to visit a friend when he was killed. They denied that Huggins was involved in gang-related activities. Huggins’ murder is the 311th for the year. Officers of the Besson Street Police Station cordoned off the crime scene, and refused to allow vehicular traffic into the area. Even members of the media were prevented from walking on the road by officers who claimed that the murder scene was being trampled, but officers were seen walking up and down the road awaiting the arrival of officers of the Crime Scene Unit.
