BWIA gets new board, CEO

BWIA yesterday announced the appointment of its new board of directors (to be chaired by businessman Arthur Lok Jack) and airline general manager Nelson Tom Yew as BWIA’s new CEO.

In a statement yesterday, the airline said a combination of additional financial resources and the adoption of a "putting people first" culture will ensure BWIA’s long-term viability.

Earlier this month, Public Administration and Information Minister Dr Lenny Saith announced that Cabinet had approved the appointment of a new BWIA board, which consisted of Lok Jack (chairman), Dr Terrence Farrell, Gervaise Warner, Robert Riley and William Lucie Smith, to guide the airline’s transformation into a new entity that is "efficient, safe, reliable and customer-oriented."

As CEO, Tom Yew will be responsible for the airline’s management and operations "during the period of restructuring and transformation."

BWIA said its new board is cognizant of the fact that additional funds alone will not achieve the desired results, and it is therefore imperative that all of the airline’s management and staff join together in transforming BWIA "into a viable, enduring national airline of which all of us can be proud."

The airline said it will be speaking with its stakeholders soon as the board implements its new plans to achieve its mandate.
