CLAXTON BAY SALVAGER CRUSHED AT CENTRAL DUMP
A 34-year-old man was killed yesterday after he was crushed by a garbage truck at the Forres Park dump, Claxton Bay. Police reports say that at about 2.55 am, a DFM truck, driven by Noel Olton of 15 Enterprise Street, Longdenville, was about to offload when it accidentally reversed on Bill Avalon George, 34, of Tamboo Lane, Springville, Claxton Bay who was sleeping on a piece of plastic at the dump. A man standing behind the vehicle alerted the driver who immediately stopped the vehicle. George was found bleeding profusely from the nose and ears. Police said George, a salvager at the dump, died on the spot and the body was removed to the Couva Funeral Home. The dead man’s mother, Molly George, 61, said when she received news of her son’s death she immediately went to the dump site. George described her son, the second of 11 children, as a willing and helpful person. She said he would normally go home after finishing work at the dump. Cpl Mohammed of the Couva Police Station is continuing investigations.
