Teenagers arrested for kidnapping, robbery

TWO PENAL teenagers were among three held in connection with the kidnapping and robbery of a Penal man on Friday night. Police said that the two boys — aged 15 and 18 years old — were held mere hours after the incident. According to reports, the victim Rajkumar Sieunarine, of Clarke Road, Penal, told police that around 9.30 pm he entered a Nissan B-11 Sunny in which there were three men — a driver and two “passengers”. Sieunarine reported that he asked the driver to be taken to his house at Clarke Road.  Instead of dropping him off at his house, however, the men took him against his will to a remote area where they robbed him of $100 cash, his passport, ID card, wallet and cell phone. Sieunarine told police he managed to escape from the vehicle and ran into nearby bushes.

Sieunarine walked into the Penal Police station and made a report of the incident. Subsequently a party of police officers spearheaded by Inspector Michael Wells, Cpl Minors, PCs Nelson, Sookraj, Solomon and Garraway went in search of the perpetrators and arrested a 27-year-old man at Barrackpore, and the two teenagers at their homes. PC Solomon is expected to lay charges of kidnapping and robbery against the three suspects. They are expected to be taken before a Siparia Magistrate tomorrow.
