FORGET POLITICS AND TRY UNITY
Ironically, this was the theme that earned Kerry Ramgobin the $100,000 first prize and the title of 2005 National Chutney Monarch. Ramgobin, on Saturday night at Skinner Park, San Fernando, put on such a scintillating performance of his tune “Forget Politics and Try Unity” that he dethroned the 2004 champion Heeralal Rampartap, who had to settle for second place. The normally large crowd of patrons did not turn up as expected, probably due to heavy showers, but those who came enjoyed themselves to the fullest at what has come to be a very popular show.
Ramgobin, the winner, scored 477 points among the judging panel, while Rampartap got the second place prize of $40,000 and the third place winner Videsh Sookoo took home $20,000. Fourth place went to Edward Ramdass, who received $10,000, while fifth place winner, Dubraj Persad and sixth place winner Boodram Holass won $7,000 and $5,000 respectively. All other contestants received $4,000 each.
