Telecom Authority gives TSTT new lease on life

THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) will grant a new concession to TSTT in order to allow the company to provide mobile and fixed phone services to the population.

This was disclosed on Sunday by TATT chairman Khalid Hassanali as he outlined steps being taken by the authority to ensure the speedy resolution of inter-connection problems between TSTT and Irish telecom company Digicel, and for multiple mobile phone service providers to be serving the public before Christmas.

Hassanali told Newsday that TSTT’s ability to provide mobile and land line phone services was approved under the Wireless Telegraph Ordinance, which has now been replaced by the Telecommunications Act 2001, and will expire December 31.

He said in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Administration and Information, a concession in accordance with the Act will allow it to continue to provide the services which it currently offers to the population.
