Woman threatens cops

WITH the nation’s police stations already on high alert after Tuesday’s arrest of Jamaat al Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr, tension gripped police officers in the South-western Police Division yesterday after a woman, dressed in Muslim attire, issued a threat.

The threat was made to police officers at the Penal Police Station.

At about 9 pm on Tuesday, the woman, wearing a hijab, walked into the Penal Police Station.

A police report confirmed that the woman asked police officers on duty about their security system.

One of the questions the woman asked, a senior police source told Newsday, was the number of policemen working in the station.

Suspicious about her questions, one officer asked the woman why she required that information. Snr Supt Gopiechan Ganga yesterday said that he had requested a report about the woman’s visit from Penal police.

The police report stated that when questioned further, the woman replied: "Allyuh go see." The woman then left the station. Siparia police headquarters, a police source said, was contacted and wireless messages were sent to all police stations in the division to be on the lookout for the woman.

Police yesterday issued a description of the woman, whom they say is five feet six inches, of dark brown complexion, and slim built.

The number of police officers guarding all police stations in the division has been doubled, with heavily-armed policemen.

The senior police source said police officers had been called out from leave for extra duty.
