Gunman robs nursery
A gunman stormed into the nursery at St Dominic’s Home in Belmont on Wednesday afternoon, held up four teachers in full view of ten children and escaped with a quantity of cash, jewelry and cell-phones. The traumatised teachers underwent counselling after the robbery, and the children were taken to another building. Reports revealed that while ten children were in the nursery with four teachers at 1.30 pm, a gunman entered and announced a hold-up. He ordered the ten children, ages one to five, to a toilet before proceeding to rob the four teachers of a quantity of cash, cell-phones and other valuables. The gunman then fled the scene. A report was filed at the Belmont Police Station and police officers went to the scene. Yesterday, the nursery was closed to facilitate counselling for the four affected teachers. Sisters at the home told Newsday that the robbery has left several people shaken up, saying that security at the home must be beefed up.
