Family escapes burning house

A WOMAN and her two young children escaped a fiery death on Sunday night, when they were forced to flee their burning house in La Brea. Fire broke out while Jennifer Kurton and her two children were asleep at their Sobo Circular Road home.

Police yesterday said that a kerosene lamp may have caused the fire.

According to a police report, Kurton was awakened at 11.20 pm by intense heat and smoke. She had been asleep with her children, ages four and five, on the same bed.

According to the report, Kurton grabbed her children and ran out of the burning house.

Neighbours contacted the Point Fortin Fire Station but by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the house had already been engulfed in flames.

The house, valued $18,000, was completely destroyed.

Police said the house had no electricity. PC Boodoo of the La Brea Police Station is continuing investigations.
