Family rescued from flooded home

A Wallerfield mother and her three children were yesterday rescued when flood waters burst into their wooden home after the Aripo River overflowed its banks.

Sherma Henry lost all of her household items, clothing and groceries as a result of the flooding.

Her three children were relocated to her neighbour’s home, while Henry stood in the road in front of her home waiting for the flood waters to recede.

The frustrated woman told Newsday that her husband, Michael Francis, left home and never returned since November 3. She has been searching for him without success.

Then early yesterday, while she was asleep with her three children, neighbours called out, telling her that her house was surrounded by flood waters.

Henry said that as she stepped out of her bed she realised that the inside of the house was flooded and her belongings were floating around inside the house. She managed to get her three children out of the house and was then able to safely manoeuvre her way into the yard with the assistance of a neighbour.

As tears streamed down her face, Henry said she was unsure why her life has been turned upside down, with her husband missing and now her home flooded out, and everything lost.

She blamed the authorities for her plight, saying she has been begging for the water courses in the area to be cleaned.
