What’s wrong with our fainting soldiers?
THE EDITOR: I find it very extraordinary and highly unusual to know that every time there is a parade by the Defence Force, a member or members of the military have to faint. I refer to the most recent laying of wreaths at the war memorial during the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Memorial Park in Port-of-Spain on November 13, where a few members of the military had to be carried to shaded areas after they fainted under the hot sun. While I am sorry to hear that they fainted, I wish to ask, aren’t those men supposed to be fit and robust enjoying radiant and glowing health, ready to defend our country at a moment’s notice? I would like the Minister of National Security to give this matter his urgent attention with the objective of course, finding out from the Defence Force doctors what are the possible causes of the fainting of the military members, the regularity and names of the members. God forbid, but if the Defence Force is constrained to defend our country, God may have to help us. HARRY P T CHARLIE Princes Town
