Police reports must be properly logged

THE EDITOR: There have been many instances where drivers reported accidents and as usual produced their driver’s permit and vehicle insurance to the police, and a few months thereafter, have been summoned to appear in court for failing to report the accident and in other instances failing to produce their driver’s permit and vehicle insurance.

In an effort to bring some measure of assurance and transparency in dealing with the public, that reports are properly logged by the police after leaving the police station, I would like to inform the general public that on January 13 2006, on a television programme, the Commissioner of Police Mr Trevor Paul promised to put a system in place so that citizens be provided with official written acknowledgment from the police for all reports made, as well as whatever documents produced such as driver’s permit, vehicle insurance etc. He acknowledged that such a system would not be a problem as it is very cost effective and simple. Looking forward for such system to be implemented without delay.
