Reading the bible, gambling
THE EDITOR: Great Letter: "Outrageous decision against betting shop" in the Newsday of February 1, 2006, page 11. This was excellent, well said. Speaking for the vast majority of our population. This decision is outrageous. It is an insult to our people. A total disrespect to persons who participate in lottery, lotto, play whe, scratch, casinos and horse racing. All these people are considered sinners. A person has a choice, whether they want to gamble or read the bible. And who says they can’t do both? There is no law against opening a betting shop next to a church. And what about religious organisations, schools, churches that have major raffles for financial gain and gambling games at their family days and bazaars. We are all saddened by the fact that this very small, dying church could influence our grand masters. It is outrageous. FRANCIS LOPEZ Port-of-Spain
