Concern over cell towers in Tobago
THE EDITOR: I write this open letter, as a concerned Tobagonian, to Dr John Prince, CEO of the Telecommunication Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT), to Ms Haynes, Town Planner, of the Town and Country Planning Division (TCPD) in the Tobago House of Assembly, to ask them to put a moratorium on the construction of all Cellular Phone Towers — Public Health Emergencies in Tobago. This open letter calls on, Tobago’s intellectuals, scientists and Legal personnel, Professor H Ramkissoon of UWI St Augustine and The Caribbean Academy of Science to provide Tobago with a flood of objective research information, regarding the adverse health effects that may result as a consequence of the proliferation of Cell Tower Sites particularly in residential communities. This open letter calls on the Tobago media, to agitate on our behalf, to the named agencies to ensure that 1) A moratorium on the construction is called 2) The town meetings are held and reported on and 3) Tobagonians are kept informed on issues in respect of cell phone towers and health. Tobagonians, are we prepared to sacrifice our constitutional right to health and a safe environment to the telecommunication cell phone war fought in our backyards? BERNARD HENRY Tobago
