Last 2 weeks for some ‘Beef’

The play, which has been the pilot in an experiment with an open-ended theatre season, has been running for the past six weeks for five nights from Wednesdays to Sundays.

Producer, Albert Laveau believes the season pilot has been a tremendous success “in that it has met the goals set for it.

“It has given us a clearer perspective on permanent theatre in Trinidad, both from an artistic and a business point of view and we are very encouraged from the experience, which saw virtually full houses for each of the 25 nights,” he said.

The workshop is now preparing to fulfil an invitation to stage the play in St Lucia in August. “It has given a local director in the person of Mervyn De Goeas an opportunity to direct a Walcott play,” said Laveau. It has introduced some new actors to the stage – Shannalee De Freitas, Makeda Smenkh-Ka-Ra, Tarel Laughlin, Stephan Simmons and Damien Sogren – and given them an opportunity to work alongside veterans like Glenn Davis, Theresa Awai, and Susan Hannays-Abraham among others. We are very pleased.”

He also expressed pride that it was staged at TTW’s own theatre space in Belmont which he largely built with his own hands and forecasted that it was the beginning of use of the space for other enterprises.

Beef, No Chicken begins at 8 pm Wednesdays to Saturdays and 6 pm on Sundays.
