Introducing breathalyser not good enough

It has been said that road fatalities drop in countries using tests on drivers.

The main concern is that in law-abiding countries where the breathalyser has proved effective the police work 24 hours per day and enforce existing laws so as to give a datum indication how the present laws have on the road fatalities.

Surely those persons driving at high speeds, weaving in and out of traffic, go through Red Lights, indiscriminate stopping, bad hand signals, cruising in overtaking lane, overtaking on the left, no lights at night, defective vehicles and exhibiting poor driving standards are drunk drivers.

The minister may want to address:

1) The enforcement of the existing traffic laws; 2) Enact legislation to regulate and certify driving instructors; 3) Clean up the department issuing driving permits; 4) Revisit the penalties for driving offences.

This may be a position to start from before adding another law.

When the nine days have passed the novelty wears off the breathalyser would be a new avenue to derive unearned income.
