Straying from the flock
Does this situation have some bearing on the present state of affairs involving our youths? Who is to be blamed? Well my brothers and sisters, to some extent, we, the parents are to be blamed for what is happening in our country. You see as parents, we must not just talk-the-talk, but we must walk-the-walk.
Let me explain: I have noticed that a great number of our people tend to organise their lives into compartments. We go to church on Sunday, then we go to work on Monday, and we also go to play on Saturday and Sunday.
Church is church, work is work, politics is politics, and of course my fun is my fun (and nobody else’s concern). We treat each area of activity as though there is no relationship, one to the other. The time has come for us to take a new look at ourselves. For example, we believers do not go to church; because we are the Church. We don’t go to the Lord’s house; because we are the Lord’s temples. We are His body. Until we really understand this point, nothing else will work in our attempt to influence the lives of our youths so that they will become responsible citizens.
Who we are on Monday and Saturday really determines who we are on Sunday. If we are fully committed to being the Church on Sunday then we will bring praise, honour, and glory to God during the rest of the week. This attitude will impact on our kids and neighbours.
Our kids aren’t stupid. We can drag them to church every Sunday, but if they see us cheating others or being abusive the rest of the week (or even on Sunday) they will know what is really important to us. You want your kids to stay in church, then be the church.
