He said he wanted to be more relaxed at home before reporting to Crowne Plaza in Port-of-Spain when the Soca Warriors are scheduled to begin live-in camp ahead of their international friendly against Peru on May 10.

“I think everyone realises how improtant this period is for our football,” John said.

“It’s the biggest stage for all of us and is definitely the most important stage of our history apart from winning several Caribbean tournaments,” he said.

The former MLS star is packing for trips which will have stops in Trinidad and Tobago, Manchester, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic and on to World Cup Germany

“We have worked very hard for this over the years so we don’t want to spoil it now,” he said.

John stated boldly, “No Paraguay, Sweden or England are going to make us feel second

best.”

Of his form, the ace national striker said, “I have been ready for matches and so but the last few weeks have been the best in my career in England in terms of feelings mentally and physically.”

Trinidad and Tobago team coach Leo Beenhakker began work with some of his World Cup squad at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

And ex-national Evans Wise who is just back has been included in the training squad for a President’s XI match against Grenada tonight from 7 pm at the same venue.
