Smooth start to new school term
Ministry of Education communications specialist Mervyn Critchlow reported that all primary and secondary schools reopened in south and central Trinidad with the exception of one school in Gasparillo.
Critchlow, said that the VOS Government Primary School would remain closed until next
Monday because the school’s sewer system was being repaired.
Critchlow however, was unable to report on pupil attendance at schools, because he was awaiting reports from school supervisors. But checks by Newsday at various schools
revealed that the student attendance was generally “good”.
Principal of Naparima Girls’ High School Patricia Ramgoolam, said that there was almost a full student body attendance at the school.
San Francique Hindu School principal Seerattan Singh said, “Eighty percent of our students turned out for classes and everything is running smoothly.”
San Fernando Girls’ Anglican School principal Megan Carrigton, said she was pleased with the first day’s attendance. Carrigton said approximately 75 percent of students turned out for classes.
Meanwhile Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Ordinary Level exams are scheduled to begin in May, while Secondary results Entrance Assessment (SEA) are due in June. In North Trinidad, three schools remained closed yesterday due to continuous
upgrading works.
Chinapoo Government Primary, St Dominic’s RC Primary and Dinsley-Trincity Government School are expected to beopened next Monday.
