Saddened by Guyana events

Basdeo Panday said the murders prove violence has entered Caribbean politics.

For those who think that Caribbean politics has degenerated to new lows; we need only to recall that Prime Minister Bishop and members of his Cabinet in Grenada were executed. In Suriname, in 1982, following the coup led by D?sir? Bouterse, we saw the summary execution of 15 individuals, mostly civic leaders as well as four lawyers.

To stop the “rollercoaster of bloodshed”, as the Stabroek News has stated, the immediate resignation of the police commissioner is required.

The PPP Government must put forward a candidate in this election, who can restore security to this nation.

We are all deeply saddened by the loss of lives of the minster, his siblings and their security guard, the eight people in Agricola, Vasant and his son and Mr Jagdeo in 2002; however, what is needed at this time is strong leadership and not the usual old talk.
