Importing men could have social problems
The answer could well be in Government revising and staggering the dates of mega construction projects, over a prolonged period, expediting the granting of quarry licences and rethink its position of the importation of 10,000 male construction workers. The latter is no panacea, and could have very serious social consequences.
Last but not least Government must ensure that 30 percent of the money expedited on projects trickle down to the small hardware traders.
To ensure that the money is equitably distributed, Government should set up a monitor unit where big contractors could submit invoices and receipts, on a predetermine cycle monthly basis for inspection to ensure that small business get their share of the economic pie.
For heaven’s sake, let the forces of supply and demand continue to operate in the market place. Of course, government should smash cartels and monopolies at every given opportunity. I rest my case.
