Angostura $$ for Tobago Sail Week

The presentation was made by 1986 Miss World and current Manager of Corporate Communications at Angostura Limited, Giselle Laronde-West, to Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Association (TTSA) vice-president David Leighton during yesterday’s media conference at the House of Angostura, Laventille.

Kevin Kenny, Angostura’s Executive Manager and chairman of Regatta Promoters, disclosed that between 50-80 boats will be competing in the various classes— racing, cruiser/racer, cruising, charter and comfort cruising— during the week-long event.

Among those yachts are the Reichel Pugh 44 “Storm”, owned by American Les Crouch, the Beneteau 53F5 “Rapajam”, “Bruggadung” and “Blazin”.

Director of Regatta Promoters, Michael Rostant, added that the markers on the courses, for this year’s competition, will be shifted to counter the winds on the seas.

“We have to keep varying our tactics, otherwise we’ll get stale,” he stressed.

While Angostura is the title sponsor, there are other firms involved in the venture, including the respective day sponsors— Tobago House of Assembly Department of Tourism (May 14), Yacht Services Association of Trinidad and Tobago (May 15), Chaguaramas Boatyards and Angostura Caribbean Club Party (May 16), Pepsi (May 17), CLICO (May 18) and Tobago Hilton (May 19).

And the sub-sponsors for the event are TSTT bmobile (official communications provider), Carib (official beer), Lucozade (official energy drink), Water One (water taxi sponsor) and FT Farfan (jetty sponsor).
