Dog-a-Thon at Savannah
The German Shepherd Breed Club of Trinidad and Tobago will host the event. Club members will also be handing over four dogs to four children from high crime areas. The gesture is in keeping with the dog-a-thon’s theme of “Take a Bite out of Crime.”
The club will provide the youngsters with dog food for one year and will also teach them how to train their canines.
The dog-a-thon will be open to all breeds of dogs, including mixed breeds and over $3,000 in prizes are at stake. There will also be a competition for dog handlers.
Live demonstrations with trained dogs and their handlers as well as from the Police Canine Branch and other owners are just some of the day’s activities.
A vet will be on hand to provide health care information to participants and an information booth will be set up.
The club also aims to highlight and educate the citizenry about the German Shepherd as a breed of canine that can perform numerous beneficial roles for the wider society.
These roles include working dogs for the Police Service, tracking of missing persons and escaped felons, search and rescue work in times of natural disasters and other related public services.
The club also promotes the principle of responsible dog ownership and breeding practices as well as the maintaining of the club’s standards nationally.
