WICB should adopt TTCB development plan

In celebrating the victories of the senior team, we must remember that our Under 19 cricketers registered the ‘double’ twice in recent years in the TCL regional tournament and our women cricketers also achieved this feat recently.

The success of our under 15 teams with three victories in four years, in my view, provided the motivation and demonstrated the value of a properly organised development programme from which our present players have emerged. The Under 15’s graduated to the Under 19’s and many of those players are now on our victorious senior team. The opening of the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre at Balmain, Couva in 2002 was a visionary move by the officials of the TT Cricket Board.

The facility has served as the nerve centre for development planning.

It is unfortunate that the WICB did not move in the same direction when the Alloy Lequay Cricket Development Committee presented them with a plan in 1997. It is not too late for the WICB to adopt the plans of the TTCB. Congrats again fellas. Football, Cricket, Swimming, Golf and Athletics we are on a ‘roll.’ Perhaps sports can be the medicine for our social ills.
