N/Zone b-ball bounces off

The opening ceremony will take place at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo from 2 pm.

Both Roberts and John-Davis will be representing the men’s and women’s national champions respectively, Detour Shak Attack and Defence Force.

Their teams meet their north zone rivals and last year’s zonal winners Defence Force (men) and Courts Horizon (women).

Leading the Army unit’s title defence will be north zone “Most Valuable Player” Steven “Lighter” Lewis.

The women’s MVP, centre Rachael Thompson-King, will also be looking to do the same with her Horizon teammates.

Both teams finished runners-up in the national competition.

The opening ceremony will also include a parade of teams from the zone’s first, second and women’s divisions.

Earl John, the new president of the National Basketball Federation will give the feature address and Dave Bobb, Sports Officer II in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs will also be present to witness the opening.

The first match on the afternoon’s programme will be the women’s contest, followed by the men’s clash between Defence Force and the newly crowned South Zone champions Shak Attack.

This year 18 clubs will field 26 teams in 117 nights of basketball action in the preliminaries.
