East PoS facelift to start soon

This was disclosed yesterday by EPOSDC chairman Anthony Fifi, whose company has been mandated to improve the economic, social and physical environment in a special development zone bounded by Charlotte Street, Lady Young Road and the coast and including the communities of Morvant, Never Dirty, Caledonia, Beetham, Katanga and Sea Lots.

Recalling that EPOSDC was legally incorporated between September and October, Fifi said the company was doing a lot of work to formulate plans for the areas within its purview and was continuing dialogue with the respective communities about those plans. However, Fifi was unable to comment about how the latter was proceeding at this time.

Asked whether work being proposed for East PoS and environs could not be handled by the TT Housing Development Corporation (TTHDC) which replaced the National Housing Authority (NHA) earlier this year, Fifi said EPOSDC and TTHDC each had different responsibilities to undertake.

He said while EPOSDC may be involved in the construction of some houses in the areas within its jurisdiction, it is possible that there should be some partnering or sharing of responsibilities with the TTHDC. In March, TTHDC managing director Noel Garcia said his company would be handling any housing developments in East PoS and environs which fell within its jurisdiction.

Asked when EPOSDC would be moving out of the planning and into the implementation phase, Fifi said he was optimistic that the company should begin rolling out projects sometime within the next three months. EPOSDC is one of several limited liability companies formed by Government to assist in the implementation of major infrastructural projects in TT.

Others include the National Infrastruc-ture Development Company, Education Facilities Company and the Rural Development Corporation of TT.
