Govt hands over $14.4m
The money was the first instalment of the $45 million which Boynes announced was approved by cabinet last month for the Soca Warriors to participate in the World Cup Finals in Germany. “We have been working hand in hand with the TTFF as we make sure that we get the accounts right. The TTFF has been extremely co-operative with us and we applied and requested funding from the Ministry of Finance and Controller of Accounts.
“What has to happen is we need appropriate info on what has been paid and we need proof and they have provided with the proof to demonstrate payment has been made,” Boynes said.
He added that a corporate organisation has agreed to make a contribution and this along with other payments from the Government will be carried out later this week.
Boynes also said that team captain Dwight Yorke, who arrives this week, has an appointment with Prime Minister Patrick Manning on how best to honour the Trinidad and Tobago footballers for qualifying for the World Cup Finals.
