ARANJUEZ WANTS ITS FENCE
Two months ago, teachers of the school withheld their services in protest against the lack of security guards and improper fencing at the southern side of the school.
Teachers had given the contractors a week to begin construction of the fence. However to date, nothing has been done.
Joseph said, the school now has two additional security guards to patrol the perimeter of the compound as promised and the only construction material on the site were to be used for construction of a new toilet and bath for teaching staff. She said, there were past incidents of unauthorised individuals passing through the schoolyard and there was a potential problem of people jumping over the present low fence.
Edward Reid, president of the PTA, told Newsday, there were “engineering flaws” with the first tender for construction of the fence, which forced the Ministry of Education to conduct another round of tenders for the project and this, he said, should be finalised by end of next week.
The project manager for the school’s fence project at the Ministry of Education could not be reached for comment.
