Joe Public maul Tobago 7-1 to overtake Jabloteh
The “Eastern Lions” overtook CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh for the first spot, even though Jabloteh handed W Connection their second straight defeat, by a 1-0 margin at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
And Defence Force registered its first point of the season, as they drew 1-1 against Starworld Strikers at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Brazilian Phanor Gonzales netted a hat-trick for the “Lions”, in the seventh, 41st and 66th minutes, while Jamaican Roen Nelson added a pair, in the 13th and 90th.
Ex-national Under-17 midfielder Terrence McAllister (22nd) and veteran Arnold Dwarika (81st) chipped in with one apiece in the rout, while Addae Rique got the lone item for the hosts.
Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Aurtis Whitley’s 43rd minute strike was enough to give Jabloteh full points against the defending Pro League champs.
Akil Pierre’s 58th minute item seemed to be enough for the Army-Coast Guard combination to end their horrid start to the season, but the dreadlocked Andre Charles levelled the scores for Starworld in stoppage time.
In the first match of a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA fought back from a two-goal deficit to hold United Petrotrin to a 2-2 draw.
Sylvester Teesdale (34th) and Brent Garcia (53rd) gave Petrotrin a comfortable cushion but ex-TT striker Nigel Pierre pulled one back via a 71st minute penalty, and national Under-21 midfielder Kendall Jagdeosingh equalised five minutes later.
Shem Mc Farlane got the winner for Superstar Rangers, in the 46th, as they edged National Quarries North East Stars 1-0 in the second match at the venue.
