Burnt body mystifies Tobago cops

Police told Newsday yesterday they believe the body is that of a 30-year-old nurse of Signal Hill, who was employed at the Scarborough Regional Hospital.

The vehicle’s chassis number was traced by licensing officers on Wednesday, and it was discovered to be owned by a Charlotteville resident who had reportedly loaned the vehicle to a friend, and who in turn lent it to the victim.

A senior Scarborough CID officer yesterday told Newsday that contrary to some media reports, any word on the victim’s actual identity “is just speculation.”

“At this point it is all just hearsay because we, the investigating officers, have not yet positively identified the body and we will have to wait until tomorrow (today) when the mortician is available to do that. Also talk that an autopsy was done on the body Wednesday is just that, because we won’t be able to conduct an autopsy unless the body has been positively identified,” the officer said.

According to police, one person is currently assisting with the probe, however, they plan to pursue other leads.

Officers attached to the Tobago Homicide Department are continuing investigations.
