UWI students protest high rent

Rodney Jaglal, President of the UWI Students’ Guild, told Newsday the reason for the march was to bring to the attention of stakeholders, the great concern of students with respect to off and on-campus accommodations.

He said the guild wanted the Government to realise there was a serious situation concerning the substantial increasing of rent fees for apartments and rooms around the campus because of the high demand that would be created when the students are displaced.

He said since there will be a high demand for rooms, renters have begun upping their rents.
