UNC executive: Unite for Panday
The executive made this call yesterday in a statement issued as a follow-up to its meeting on Tuesday to discuss whether or not to accept Panday’s resignation.
The statement, from UNC deputy chairman Vasant Bharath, said that because of the critical importance of the resignation, the executive needs to discuss it with all arms and stakeholders of the UNC.
These UNC groups include the Youth Arm, Women’s Arm, Parliamentary Arm, Constituency Council and regional bodies.
“Because of our fierce commitment to democracy, the national executive is committed to listening to and considering the voices and opinions of the entire UNC family”. the release said. The executive praised Panday’s tremendous contribution to the welfare of the people, especially the dispossessed and downtrodden.
“The national executive further acknowledged that Mr Panday is without peer as a Caribbean statesman and visionary.”
Since Panday’s offer of resignation, said the statement, there has been a deluge of supportive messages including e-mails coming in from across the globe. “There has been a massive outpouring of love, support, gratitude and appreciation from the wider UNC family and from other well-wishers and patriots.”
The executive thanked people for their tangible show of loyalty and support, saying they felt humbled and indebted by these gestures.
The executive has also invited the public to a UNC rally on Monday at 7pm at Rio Claro Junction.
