Diego man killed
A 21-year-old man of Union Road, Diego Martin, was shot dead early yesterday while attending a birthday party at Jerry Street, Blue Basin.
Kevin St John, alias “Al Capone” left his home on Saturday night, telling his aunt Florie St John, that he was going to a birthday party with his girlfriend and two friends. His aunt advised him that he should not attend because of the recent murders in the Blue Basin area.
A tearful Florie said yesterday that Kevin convinced her that he was going to be alright and assured her that he would return home safely. At about 12.15 am yesterday, Florie received a telephone call informing her that Kevin was shot twice in the chest and had died.
“I just could not believe it, and hoped it was just a bad dream, but it was true and now Kevin is no more,” said the aunt.
She dismissed rumours that her nephew was killed because of differences with warring gangs over drugs.
Florie told Newsday that her nephew was living the life of a Christian and was not involved in any illicit activities.
She added that Kevin recently got a job in an electrical store and was even trying to get his friends to live a god fearing life.
“Everyone is in shock because we knew that Kevin was living a good life, and we never expected him to be killed in such a violent manner,” said Florie.
She added that she is leaving the matter in the hands of the almighty.
An eyewitness to the murder said that Kevin was called out by a man who said he wanted to talk to him.
While standing outside a light pole, he was shot twice in the stomach.
Up until yesterday, 140 persons were murdered for the year. Sixteen of those murders took place in the Blue Basin area.
